Road biking through the beautiful mountains of the Transylvania County/Brevard area offers two types of rides - rolling hills and valleys for a more relaxed ride, as well as more challenging mountain climbs with scenic views. You can find touring maps covering different portions of the state through the NC Dept. of Transportation that will lead you through eight different routes.
One of the leading mountain bike destinations in Western North Carolina, you'll find classic single-track trails with lots of big climbs and fast descents in Pisgah National Forest and just a few miles down the road in DuPont State Forest you'll find purpose-built trails that take you over a completely different landscape – sand, slickrock, even waterfall routes.
Endurance races are held here throughout the year. The Asault on the Carolinas offers 40K & 60K rides that will take you through the scenic river valleys of Transylvania County that can be enjoyed by riders of all skill levels, as well as a 100K ride that has beautiful scenery, fast descents, and a challenging 6mile climb up Caesar’s Head. The Pisgah Stage Race is a 5 day mountain biking race that includes some of the East’s most rugged trails and tallies 28,000 feet of climbing over 195 miles.
Brevard is a very cycle-friendly community and with 50% of the county being National Forest and State parks, there are miles and miles of trails to enjoy.
