Transylvania County, NC - Land of Waterfalls

Located in beautiful Western North Carolina, Transylvania County is known as the “Land of Waterfalls” for good reason - there are  250 waterfalls located here amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains!  These are the Top Ten Waterfalls 2011 that should not be missed, as chosen by the readers of RomanticAsheville.com, an on line travel guide.

Sliding Rock is a 60' naturally-formed rock slide with a 6-7 foot deep pool at the base in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard

Looking Glass Falls is one of the most visited waterfalls in North Carolina. Located along US 276 north of Brevard, you won't even have to get out of your car to see this 60-foot waterfall.

Dupont State Forest, near Brevard, has an easy, wooded trail that will take you to three magnificent Falls - Hooker Falls, a powerful 20 foot fall, the scenic Triple Falls, and High Falls.

Graveyard Fields on the Blue Ridge Parkway has an excellent loop trail that leads to two waterfalls.

Rainbow Falls is a mighty 150 foot fall found along the Horsepasture River in Nantahala National Forest

Linville Falls is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This waterfall is in two sections: the upper falls and the lower falls,
follow the Erwins View Trail to find  four overlooks for this fall.

Crabtree Falls is a beautiful 70-foot waterfall, also along the Blue Ridge Parkway,  accessed by a 2.5 mile loop hiking trail.

Upper Whitewater Falls, with its 411 foot plunge,  is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies and is easily accessed from a paved trail.

Hickory Nuts Falls - follow along the Hickory Nut Falls trail in Chimney Rock Park  to the base of these 404 foot falls,  one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River.

Dry Falls - you can actually walk behind this impressive 75-foot waterfall in the Nantahala National Forest, and stay dry!

To access to most of the waterfalls requires some light hiking, so while you go in search of the waterfalls around the Brevard and Asheville area  you will experience firsthand the pristine and incredible landscape found here in Transylvania County.
